How to write a dating profile that gets replies
Your profile is the first impression you make. You do not need to be a great writer or a model, just clear, honest and a little specific. Here is what makes the difference.
Photos
- Start with a clear photo of your face, smiling, in good daylight, with no sunglasses. It is the photo people see first.
- Add two or three more: one full-length, one doing something you enjoy, one with friends (make it obvious which one is you).
- Keep them recent and real. Heavy filters and photos from ten years ago lead to awkward first meetings.
- Verify your photos. On AsianLove, a quick selfie gets you a verified badge, and verified profiles are trusted more.
Headline
One short line that says something real: "Weekend hiker who makes great adobo" beats "Hi, just ask". Specific details give people something to reply to.
About you
- Write a few short paragraphs, not a list of requirements.
- Share what you enjoy, what a good weekend looks like, and what you are looking for.
- Be positive. "I'm looking for someone kind and honest" works better than a list of things you do not want.
- Be honest about what you want, whether that is marriage, a relationship or friendship. It saves everyone time.
Prompts and interests
Answer one to three profile prompts; they are the easiest way for someone to start a conversation. Pick a handful of interests that are really you. On AsianLove, shared interests are highlighted, and people can like a specific answer with a comment.
Your first message
- Mention something from their profile: a photo, an interest, an answer.
- Ask an easy, open question.
- Skip the copy-and-paste greeting. People can tell, and they reply far less often.
- Be patient. Not everyone replies at once, and some do not reply at all. That is normal; keep going.
