Privacy policy

This policy explains what personal data AsianLove collects, why, and what you can do about it. AsianLove is operated from Norway and follows the EU and EEA data protection rules (GDPR).
1. What we collect
- Account details: your email address, username and a protected (hashed) form of your password. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address from Google.
- Profile details: gender, who you are looking for, date of birth, country, city, height, weight, education, and the text and photos you add. A dating profile can reveal sensitive information such as your sexual orientation; you choose what to share.
- Voice introduction, if you record one.
- Location, only if you choose to share it. We store it rounded to about one kilometre and show other members only the distance.
- Mobile number, if you verify it. It is never shown to other members.
- Verification selfie, if you verify your photos. It is seen only by our moderators and deleted after the check.
- Activity: your messages, likes, favourites, visits, blocks, reports, private notes and feed posts, and when you were last active.
- Technical data: basic server logs kept by our hosting providers, such as IP address and browser type.
- Visitor statistics, only if you allow them: which pages are viewed, collected with Google Analytics.
2. Why we use it
- To provide the service you signed up for: showing your profile, search, matching and messaging. Legal basis: our agreement with you.
- To keep members safe: moderating reports and photos and preventing fraud and abuse. Legal basis: our legitimate interest and legal obligations.
- To contact you about your account, for example to verify your email or reset your password. Legal basis: our agreement with you.
- Sensitive information you choose to put on your profile is processed on the basis of your consent, which you can withdraw by removing it or deleting your account.
- To understand how the site is used, with visitor statistics. Legal basis: your consent, which you give or refuse when asked.
We do not sell your data and we do not show advertising from other companies.
3. Who can see your information
- Other members see your profile, photos, voice introduction, approximate distance if you shared your location, and when you were last active unless you hide it. They never see your email address or mobile number.
- Our moderators can see profiles, reports and reported content.
- Service providers that run the site for us: website hosting, database and file storage, email delivery, text message delivery, Google if you choose Google sign-in, and Google Analytics if you allow visitor statistics. They may only use the data to provide their service to us. Some providers may process data outside the EEA, in which case approved safeguards such as standard contractual clauses apply.
- Authorities, when the law requires it.
4. How long we keep it
We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete your account, your profile, photos, voice introduction and messages are removed from the site straight away, and your email address and username can be registered again. A copy of your account record (profile details, the messages and posts you sent, and reports) is kept in an archive that only our administrators can open, for up to 12 months, for safety, fraud prevention and statistics. Your photo, voice and selfie files are not kept. You can ask us to erase the archived copy sooner by writing to us. Backups held by our providers are overwritten on their normal cycle. We may keep limited records longer where the law requires it or to enforce a ban.
5. Your rights
You have the right to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, receive a copy of it, and object to or restrict certain uses. You can change most of it yourself under My profile and Account. For anything else, write to support@asianlove.online. You can also complain to your data protection authority; in Norway this is Datatilsynet.
6. Security
Passwords are stored in a protected form that cannot be read. Connections to the site are encrypted. No system is perfectly secure, so please choose a strong password and tell us if you suspect a problem.
7. Age
AsianLove is only for people aged 18 and over. We delete accounts of anyone we learn is under 18.
